From a young age, Kate Richards felt a deep connection to the ocean.

Growing up in Cornwall, those ties to the sea were always going to play a part in Kate's future life.

While travelling abroad, Kate was part of a project that helped map the bleaching and destruction of coral, a stark reminder of the destructive nature of rising water temperatures.

It was moments like this that pulled Kate to want to do something to help. Whilst teaching in Thailand, Kate discovered Lemongrass House, a spa company that was uncompromising in its promise to only use natural products – and ended up bringing it to the UK in 2018.

This was the moment when Kate realised there's more she could do to help protect the ocean from petrochemicals, and move the eco-needle in a classically eco-terrible industry.

Radical Wax was created in collaboration with the team at Lemongrass House using sustainably sourced plant waxes and repurposed natural byproducts. An uncompromising performance wax, that is now the official wax of Team England's junior squad.

“Radical Wax has been created to give a great an alternative to petrochemicals, a wax that just works,” said Kate. “The mission has always been clear; make the wax well, make sure it performs and don't compromise on being planet-friendly.”

As for the name, Kate's a qualified surf judge. As part of the judging criteria, the highest score available is only awarded for a radical manoeuvre. And here we are.

“Our mission as surfers is to leave nothing behind,” said Kate. “We underpin everything we do with that ethos.”

    Base Coat

    Our Base Coat is the first layer of wax applied to a surfboard to create bumps across the surface. Then use one of our temperature specific top coats to create long lasting hold and grip.

    Our Cold Water Eco Surf Wax is specifically formulated for colder water temperatures. Designed for conditions under 14°C, this wax ensures grip and traction, allowing you to perform at your best even in the chilliest conditions. For best results use with Radical’s Base Coat.

  • Cool Wax

    Our Cool Water Surf Wax provides grip and tack in milder conditions. Best used when water temperatures are between 15-20°C. Crafted with a focus on sustainability using premium, natural ingredients that do not compromise performance. For best results use with Radical’s Base Coat.
